We do this by empowering providers, improving patient care, and accelerating research. Our electronic medical records software is used by mental health doctors and their patients across the US. We analyze the data to help the doctors deliver better care and also offer insights to help research and development of new treatments that actually work.

We are looking for a VP, Engineering who will play a foundational role in Osmind's growth. You will lead and manage our entire engineering organization and help it scale from 9 to 20 to even 40 and more. You will lead the team to execute on our product roadmap, work cross-functionally across the company, set engineering best practices, build a culture of engineering excellence, and mentor the whole team.

This role will transition to in-person in San Francisco in Fall 2021 and we are seeking an immediate start date. We will be hybrid in the office with just 2-3 days expected in-office every week.

Responsibilities

  • Lead our engineering organization
    • Lead engineering team and work with Product to determine product roadmap of both product lines (EHR and enterprise data product) and translate that into engineering execution plan
      • Determine tickets and tasks for sprints, optimally devoting resources while considering learning opportunities for team members
      • Spec out tickets for junior engineers to enable them for success from execution standpoint and with deep technical considerations in mind
      • Anticipate changes, challenges, and efficiencies to steer the organization on track and ahead of timelines
    • Balance business needs/speed with accumulation of technical debt
    • Set engineering organizational goals to level up and set high standards for our entire organization
    • Lead the technology organization and facilitate cross-functional collaboration between sales, product, customer success, and other stakeholders
  • Team manager and builder
    • Work with CEO to define hiring and scaling plan for engineering and data organizations and actively take part in engineer recruiting
    • Ability to attract top talent, including leveraging contacts in your network
    • Ability to inspire engineers to stay and grow; including mentorship and empowering your engineers for peak performance
    • Ensure that the team understands the “why” behind the company’s plans and are inspired to realize the company’s vision
    • Conduct 1-1s with engineering reports
      • Includes defining career development plan for software engineers
  • Bridge with technical leads
    • Work closely with our technical architects, senior engineers, and more on designing our product/infrastructure
    • While not necessarily the most technical team member, still technically competent
    • Contribute voice in setting technical vision for both Osmind EHR and Osmind Data Platform

Requirements

  • 12+ years software engineering experience, with minimum 8 years of management experience
  • Deep understanding of our languages/frameworks and data structures: Typescript, NodeJS, Python
  • Experience scaling teams anywhere from 9 to 30 engineers
  • Startup experience (Series C or earlier), demonstrating that you can thrive in our fast-paced startup environment
  • Experience in regulated industries (e.g. finance or healthcare)
  • Passion for fixing our broken mental healthcare system
  • Comfort not coding every day
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to articulate customer and technical requirements with all stakeholders
  • Willingness to work locally out of our office in San Francisco for 2-3 days a week once COVID is over! (Relocation provided)

Preferred

  • Healthcare IT experience - HIPAA, MACRA/MIPS, ONC certification
  • Expert engineering recruiter (personally responsible for hiring 5+ engineers in the past)
